Prof. Jeremy Bagg

Professor of Clinical Microbiology, University of Glasgow; Head of Glasgow Dental School; Chair of SDCEP Steering Group

Jeremy Bagg qualified BDS (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh in 1979 and PhD from the same University in 1982, following a three-year Leckie-Mactier Research Fellowship in the Department of Bacteriology at Edinburgh Medical School.

From 1983 – 1991 he was Lecturer in Oral Medicine & Oral Pathology at Cardiff Dental School, before moving to the University of Glasgow, where he is now Professor of Clinical Microbiology, Head of the Dental School and Deputy Head of the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing. He is currently Chair of the Steering Group of the Scottish Dental Clinical Effectiveness Programme and a member of the UK Advisory Panel for Health Care Workers Infected with Blood-borne Viruses.

His research interests are in the role of oral micro-organisms in systemic disease, oral infections in the medically compromised, infection control in dental surgery and public health microbiology. He is co-author of two textbooks and has published over 150 papers in the scientific literature.

 As UK lead for the Scottish Government-funded MalDent Project (www.themaldentproject.com) he has close involvement in work related to development of oral health policy and delivery of dental education in Malawi.
