P366 Biological Bone Augmentation (BBA) and the Semilunar Technique (SLT): Working With Real Bone

Speaker:Dr Frank Zastrow

  • About This Course

At the beginning of every implantological intervention, especially in compromised situations, there is the reconstruction of the intraoral bony defects. For predictable and long-term stable results, the choice of the procedure and the implementation of the technique by the surgeon are of crucial importance.

In this recorded webinar, the Biological Bone Augmentation (BBA concept) and the Split bone block technique SBBT (according to Prof. Fouad Khoury) are presented, in which preferably the patient's own and vital bone is used as the so-called "Gold standard". The advantage lies in the osteoinductive and osteogenetic potency of the autologous bone.

At the same time, innovative modifications such as the Semilunar technique (SLT) are discussed, which may represent a facilitation and simplification of the previous methods. Also, the careful, safe and at the same time time-saving harvesting of the bone as well as the safe reconstruction of the defects are discussed.

Aims

This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the BBA concept (Biological Bone Augmentation with pure autogenous bone) and the Split Bone Technique (by Prof. Khoury) as well as innovative modifications such as the Semilunar Techniques (SLT), which are also discussed.

Objectives

  • Explain how to harvest cortico-cancellous bone blocks from the external oblique line.
  • Discuss the BBA Concept (Biological Bone Augmentation with pure autogenous bone) and the Split Bone Technique (by Prof. Khoury).
  • Understand how to deal with advanced bone defects, including vertical defects.
  • Explain the importance of advanced soft tissue management techniques in the context of bone augmentation
  • Discuss the new approach in bone harvesting to simplify the procedure.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this recorded webinar, you will understand the different procedures and techniques which can be used by the surgeon when reconstructing an intraoral bony defect.
