This recorded webinar, hosted by the University of Manchester (UoM) Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Network, is an opportunity to celebrate the important contributions made to research by people with experience of antibiotic resistance. As part of World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2021, it hopes to encourage you to spread awareness about resistance, and to think about and share your own stories about infections which did not respond to antibiotics.
Infections which do not respond to drugs like antibiotics are an ever-increasing problem. Known as antimicrobial resistant infections, there is a long list of superbugs, such as MRSA. When antimicrobials don't work, the result can be longer, more complicated illnesses, more time in hospital, or more deaths caused by infections.
Researchers from across the University of Manchester and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust are delivering important new insight and understanding to help the fight against antimicrobial resistance. Working with people who have suffered from resistant infections helps ensure our research is focused on what’s important and what will have greatest impact in the real world.
This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding relating to the real-life effects of antimicrobial resistance and why it so important that we all avoid inappropriate prescribing of antimicrobials.
