More Info Purchase CPDEpilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder characterised by recurrent unprovoked seizures. These seizures are transient signs and/or symptoms of abnormal, excessive or synchronous neuronal activity in the brain. About 50 million people worldwide have epilepsy, with almost 90% of these people being in developing countries. Epilepsy is more likely to occur in young children, or people over the age of 65 years; however, it can occur at any time.
This course aims to provide learners with knowledge and understanding of the diagnosis of epilepsy. An overview of the treatment of an epileptic fit and when an epileptic patient should be referred to hospital, will be given.
On completion of this module you will be able to describe the diagnosis of epilepsy, describe the treatment of an epileptic fit and discuss when an epileptic patient should be referred to hospital.
